చతురంగ బలాలు అంటే ? 

                                మన భారతీయ పురాణ , ఇతిహాసాలలో ఒక రాజును లేదా ఒక చక్రవర్తిని 

చాలా గొప్పవాడు అని చెప్పటానికి అతని దానగుణం, అతని పరిపాలన, అతని వీరత్వం , 

అతనికి వున్న చతురంగ బలాలు  ఇలాంటి వాటిని పరిగణలోకి  తీసుకుంటారు. మరి ఈ 

చతురంగ బలాలు అంటే ఏమిటో ఇప్పుడు చూద్దాం.

                             ముఖ్యంగా చతురంగ బలాలు అంటే " చతుర్ " అంటే నాలుగు , " అంగ " 

అంటే ఆయుధం లేదా అవయవం . వీటినే చాలా శ్లోకాలలో " రధ గజ తురగ పదాతి 

సమావృతమ్ " అని సూచించటం జరిగింది.

 ఈ చతురంగ బలాలు ఏమిటో ఇప్పుడు చూదాం. 

* రధ దళం :    అంటే రధాలని కలిగి వున్న సైన్యం. వీరు రధాలలో వుండి  యుద్ధం 

                            చేసేవారు. ఈ రధాలు అందులో వున్న సైన్యాన్ని శత్రువులు వదిలిన 

                           ఆయుధాల నుంచి అప్పుడప్పుడు కాపాడతాయి. పైగా ఈ రధ దళ 

                           సైన్యానికి పలు రకాలైన ఆయుధాలు ఉండేవి. వాటిని యుద్ధ సమయంలో 

                           భద్రపరచుకోటానికి ఈ రధాలు ఉపయోగపడతాయి.

 * గజ దళం  :    అంటే ఏనుగులను వాహనాలుగా చేసుకొని యుద్ధం చేసే సైనికుల  

                             సమూహం. వీరు ఏనుగుల మీద నుంచి యుద్ధం చేస్తారు. కొన్నిసార్లు ఈ 

                            ఏనుగులు కూడా శత్రువులను సంహరించటంలో ఉపయోగపడతాయి.

 * తురగ దళం : 

                            అంటే గుర్రాలను వాహనాలుగా  చేసుకొని యుద్ధం చేసే సైనికుల విభాగం.

                             ఇవి దూరంగా వున్న శత్రువుల దగ్గరికి త్వరగా వెళ్ళటానికి, లేదా దూరంగా 

                           శత్రువుల వలన  ప్రమాదంలో వున్న మిత్రులను కాపాడటానికి ఈ గుర్రాలు 

                           ఉపయోగపడతాయి. 

 * పదాతి దళం : 

                            అంటే ఎటువంటి వాహనం లేకుండా నడుస్తూ యుద్ధరంగానికి చేరి యుద్ధం                             

                            చేసే వీరుల విభాగం. 

                                            ఏ రాజు దగ్గర ఈ చతురంగ బలాలు సమృద్ధిగా వుంటాయో వారిని 

యుద్ధంలో  ఓడించటం చాలా కష్టం. అందుకే ఎవరైనా ఒక రాజుపై యుద్ధం 

ప్రకటించేటప్పుడు ఆ రాజుకి వున్నఈ చతురంగ బలాల గురించి తెలుసుకున్న తర్వాతే 

యుద్ధ ప్రకటన చేస్తారు .

 అయితే ప్రతి మనిషిలోనూ చతురంగ బలాలు ఉండాలి. 

అవే  * సహనం కలిగి ఉండటం 

        * శ్రమకు ఓర్చుకోవటం 

        * వాక్చాతుర్యం కలిగి ఉండటం 

        * నైపుణ్యాన్ని కలిగి ఉండటం.

              ఈ నాలుగు రకాలైన బలాలను ఎవరైతే కలిగి వుంటారో వాళ్ళు జీవితంలో ఉన్నత 

 స్థాయికి ఖచ్చితంగా చేరుకుంటారు.

What are Chaturanga Balas?

                                         In Indian Puranas and epics, the greatness of a king or emperor is 

often judged based on his generosity, administration, bravery, and the strength of his 

Chaturanga Balas (fourfold army). Now let us understand what Chaturanga Balas mean.

The word “Chatur” means four, and “Anga” means limbs, divisions, or components. In 

many verses, these are referred to as “Ratha, Gaja, Turaga, Padati Samavrutam”.

Now let us see what these four divisions are:

• Chariot Division (Ratha Dala)  : 

                                      This refers to the army equipped with chariots. Soldiers fought 

while riding in chariots. These chariots protected the soldiers from enemy weapons and also 

helped carry and store different kinds of weapons used during battle.

• Elephant Division (Gaja Dala)

                                         This refers to the group of soldiers who used elephants as war 

vehicles. They fought from the backs of elephants, and in many cases, the elephants 

themselves helped defeat enemies.

• Cavalry Division (Turaga Dala)

                                           This refers to soldiers who fought using horses. Horses allowed 

warriors to quickly reach distant enemies or rescue allies who were in danger.

• Infantry Division (Padati Dala)

                                           This refers to soldiers who fought on foot without any vehicle 

and directly entered the battlefield.

                                         A king who possessed strong and abundant Chaturanga Balas was 

considered very difficult to defeat in war. Therefore, before declaring war, rulers would first 

assess the strength of the opponent’s Chaturanga army.

However, every person should also possess their own four inner strengths (Chaturanga 

Balas):

• Patience
• Endurance and willingness to work hard
• Good communication skills
• Skill and competence

  Anyone who develops these four strengths can certainly reach higher levels in life.
