గజముఖ గణపతి అంటే ఏనుగు ముఖం కలిగిన వినాయకుడు . హిందూ
మతంలో అత్యంత విస్తృతంగా ఆరాధించబడే దేవతలలో ఒకరు వినాయకుడు . ఈ పేరు
సంస్కృత పదాలైన గజ (ఏనుగు), ముఖ (ముఖం), గణపతి (గణాలకు లేదా దివ్య
సేవకులకు అధిపతి) అనే పదాల కలయికతో ఏర్పడింది.
గణపతి జ్ఞానానికి పరమాధిపతి, అన్ని విఘ్నాలను తొలగించే దేవుడు, కొత్త ప్రారంభాలకు
ఆశీర్వాదం అందించే దేవుడిగా పూజించబడతాడు.
ఏనుగు ముఖం వెనుక కథ :
హిందూ పురాణాల ప్రకారం, పార్వతి దేవి కైలాసంలో
స్నానమాచరించుటకోసం వంటికి పూసుకోటానికి నలుగు పిండిని తయారు చేసి దానితో
ఒక అందమైన బాలుడి ప్రతిమని చేసి దానికి ప్రాణం పోసింది. అతడే వినాయకుడు
. తర్వాత ఆ బాలుడిని తన మందిరం బైట కాపలాగా ఉండమని ఆదేశించింది. అమ్మ
మాట ప్రకారం ఎవరు లోపలి రాకుండా బైట కాపలా కాస్తూ వున్నారు గణపతి. అప్పుడే
శివుడు కైలాసానికి తిరిగి వచ్చి లోపలికి వెళ్లాలని ప్రయత్నించగా, చిన్న బాలుడైన
వినాయకుడు ఆయనను తన తండ్రి అని తెలియక అడ్డుకున్నారు . దీంతో ఇద్దరి
మధ్య ఘర్షణ జరిగింది. ఆ యుద్ధంలో శివుడు అనుకోకుండా గణేశుని తలను
ఖండించాడు. పార్వతి దేవి తీవ్ర దుఃఖంలో మునిగిపోవడంతో, శివుడు
వినాయకునికి మళ్లీ ప్రాణం పోస్తానని మాట ఇచ్చాడు. ఆయన తన గణాలను ఉత్తర
దిశగా ముఖం చేసి ఉన్న మొదటి జీవి తలను తీసుకురమ్మని ఆజ్ఞాపించాడు. వారు ఒక
శక్తివంతమైన ఏనుగు తలను తీసుకొచ్చారు. ఆ తలను బాలుడి శరీరానికి అమర్చి, శివుడు
అతనికి తిరిగి ప్రాణం పోశాడు. అలా ఆయన గజముఖ గణపతిగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందాడు.
అయితే శివుడు తలుచుకుంటే వినాయకునికి ఏనుగు తల
కాకుండా ఇంకా సుందరమైన ముఖాన్నే అమర్చేవారే . కానీ ఎందుకని ఏనుగు తలను
అమర్చాలని నిర్ణయం చేసారంటే ఇక్కడ రెండు కారణాలు వున్నాయి. మొదటిది శివుడు
గజాసురునికి ఇచ్చిన మాట ప్రకారం వినాయకుడికి గజ ముఖాన్ని అమర్చారు.
ఇక రెండోవది. ఏనుగు తలకి ఒక విశిష్టత వుంది. గజముఖమ్ ఒక
లోతైన ఆధ్యాత్మిక సందేశాన్ని తెలియజేస్తుంది.
పెద్ద ఏనుగు తల – అపారమైన జ్ఞానం, గొప్ప మేధస్సు, విశాలంగా ఆలోచించే శక్తికి సంకేతం.
పెద్ద చెవులు – ఇతరులు చెప్పింది శ్రద్ధగా వినడం మరియు ప్రార్థనలను స్వీకరించే మనసుకు ప్రతీక.
వంపు తిరిగిన తొండం – జీవితంలోని ఎత్తుపల్లాలను సమర్థంగా ఎదుర్కొనే సామర్థ్యాన్ని సూచిస్తుంది.
ఒకే దంతం (ఏకదంతుడు) – సుఖదుఃఖాల వంటి ద్వంద్వాలను
అధిగమించడం మరియు ఏకాగ్రతకు ప్రతీక.

words Gaja (elephant), Mukha (face), and Ganapati (leader of the ganas or divine
attendants).
Ganapati is worshipped as the supreme lord of wisdom, the remover of obstacles, and the
bestower of blessings for new beginnings.
The Story Behind the Elephant Face
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati, while preparing to take a bath on Mount
Kailasa, made a beautiful boy from the paste she had prepared and breathed life into him.
That boy became Lord Ganesha.
She instructed him to stand guard outside her chamber and not allow anyone to enter.
Obeying his mother’s command, Ganesha guarded the entrance. At that time, Lord Shiva
returned to Kailasa and attempted to enter, but the young Ganesha, not knowing Shiva was
his father, stopped him.
This led to a confrontation between them. During the conflict, Shiva unintentionally severed
Ganesha’s head. Seeing Parvati overwhelmed with grief, Shiva promised to restore
Ganesha’s life.
Shiva then instructed his attendants to bring the head of the first living being they found
facing north. They returned with the head of a powerful elephant. Shiva placed the
elephant’s head on the boy’s body and brought him back to life. Thus, Ganesha became
famous as Gajamukha Ganapati.
It is believed that Shiva could have given Ganesha any beautiful face if he wished. However,
there are said to be two reasons why he chose the elephant’s head.
The first reason is that Shiva fulfilled a promise he had earlier given to Gajasura by giving
Ganesha an elephant face.
The second reason is that the elephant’s head carries deep spiritual symbolism.
Spiritual Meaning of Gajamukha
- Large elephant head – Symbolizes immense wisdom, great intelligence, and the
- ability to think broadly.
- Large ears – Represent listening carefully to others and receiving prayers with attention.
- Curved trunk – Symbolizes the ability to adapt and face the ups and downs of life effectively.
